Bridging the Gap Award

Please note that this is NOT a contest. This is a grant. NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT IS NECESSARY IN ORDER TO ENTER.

Qualifications

• Be a charitable organization that is working to better low-income communities
• Have a program model that can be implemented by other organizations
• Have a data tracking component that measures the success of the organization’s program(s)
• Have a budget of $250,000 or LESS per fiscal year
• Must work with groups of 15 or more families or individuals
• Must be organized and operate in a State where the Perlman Foundation has a presence. Eligible States are: AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, ID, KS, MO, NC, NJ, NV, NY, OH, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VA

Exclusions

• One-time programs or annual events that do not work continuously with the same families or individuals
• Programs that do not work directly with participants
• Programs in existence less than 1 year
• Programs that have received a grant from The Perlman Foundation within the past 12 months
• Individuals that operate charitable programs will be considered on a case by case basis
• Existing scholarship funds, internships or fellowships
• Public or private educational institutions (smaller programs within educational institutions may be eligible) *
• For-profit organizations
• Political campaigns and legislative lobbying efforts
• Projects that serve a religious purpose
• Endowments
• Local, state and national government agencies
• Film, video or exhibitions projects
• Academic research
• Sport clubs*
• Funding or re-granting organizations
• Organizations related to the Perlman Foundation or which have individuals within the organization which have a personal or business relationship with the Perlman Foundation or any of its officers or directors

*Will be considered on a case by case basis

Application, Voting and Selection Process

Application Process

Charitable organizations may apply for the grant between September 15, 2012 and October 15, 2012. Applicants must meet the outlined criteria for grant consideration. The Foundation will review applications and request additional information if necessary. All organizations must be approved to participate prior to November 01, 2012.

To apply for the grant, organizations must:

1. Like the Perlman Foundation Facebook page www.facebook.com/ThePFoundation
2. Create a profile
3. Submit a video
4. Provide contact information and proof of eligibility to participate

Approved charitable organizations will receive an email confirmation from the Perlman Foundation.

Voting

Beginning November 01, 2012, all approved organizations can upload a video of their charitable cause to the Perlman Foundation’s website and Facebook page and begin receiving votes from their supporters.

To vote supporters must:

1. Like the Perlman Foundation Facebook page www.facebook.com/ThePFoundation
2. Choose from the list of approved organizations
3. Vote for the organization of their choice. Individuals may only VOTE ONCE PER DAY.

Voting closes on November 15, 2012 at 11:59:59 p.m. PST.

Selection Process

The top 10 organizations with the most votes, along with up to 5 applicant organizations selected by the Perlman Foundation, will be finalists and eligible to receive a grant, provided that such organizations continue to meet all of the qualifications listed above. All grant finalists will be required to complete a supplementary questionnaire and the selection committee will choose up to 15 grantees based on their video, mission, programs, and questionnaire responses.

Questionnaire responses may be published in the 2013 Bridging the Gap Best Practices Report.

Grants will be awarded at the sole discretion of the Perlman Foundation.
