Be Cool Be WattSmart

My wife and I have done a lot over the years to educate ourselves and to try and become more energy efficient, but we certainly don't feel any more qualified than the next person - we have a long way to go. Over the years, we have replaced appliances with energy star appliances, replaced our A/C with a 98% efficient Air Conditioner, added additional insulation to our home, changed our lights to CFL, even replaced our windows. All of these have shown us a reduction in our total KWH / month, but nothing has given us a greater return in our investment than the Whole House Attic Fan that we installed about 10 years ago. When we installed the fan, we noticed a $30 reduction in our electricity bill the first month. The fan paid for itself within a year, and it keeps paying for itself over and over again. It has taken practice to get to know exactly when to run the fan and when to keep the windows closed. Hopefully this video will demonstrate some of our experience with this. Living in Utah has its advantages because the air cools down once the sun goes below the horizon...this is the perfect time to use the fan to cool the house. No air conditioner can compete with the power that this fan has to pull air through the house, up through the attic, while instantly cool the house with fresh outside air.
