Sol Brothers Servant Leadership Camp

The Sol Brothers Servant Leadership Camp is a results oriented project of BLU Educational Foundation’s College Exodus Project. The program consists of one-on-one mentoring that takes place in an intense residential camp for young men of color. It is the kick-off to a year-long servant leadership program designed to train young men of color to begin to address issues affecting themselves, their campus and their community. Last summer, 33 young men from Southern California’s Inland Empire region were selected to participate in the program’s 5-day residential camp on the campus of the University of California, San Diego. Under the care and leadership of professional adult males from the education, nonprofit, and business sectors, these young men were inspired to exhibit leadership qualities, serve their community, and commit to graduating from college. The College Exodus Project-Male Involvement Program is centered on developing skills that allow young men to navigate successfully through adolescence and to produce high school graduates who enroll in and graduate from college, contribute positively to the civic culture of the nation, and stand as tangible models of success for their families and community. At the core of the program is the notion of planting seeds and facilitating the creation of a cadre of highly-trained, networked, community members to address this seemingly monumental educational roadblock.
