Running changed my life
My exercise journey started at the end of 2010 when my husband said that I would not stick to an exercise routine. With feelings hurt and wanting to prove him wrong, I started exercising at the neighborhood gym. After being in the gym for months, I decided to try out the 5K button. By the end of 2011, I could run a 5K on the treadmill!
At the beginning of 2012, I heard about a group called Black Girls Run! (BGR!), it is a movement that encourages females to be active. Thinking it was too cold to do anything outside; I wrapped up and started run/walking with the group on Sundays. I truly enjoyed the networking and it was inspiring to see others get out there and run. BGR has truly changed my life, as I would have never stepped outside if it were not for this group. The group is motivational and empowers ladies every day. Since the beginning of the year, I have participated in 5K’s, 10Ks and 2 half marathons.: I have created an obsession for 5K’s and need to hit the pavement with a new challenge.
PS. I am still in the “proving him wrong mode” as my husband told me this summer that he can remember when I could not walk around the block.
Can’t stop! Won’t stop!
