Rules
1) Deadline: all photos and votes must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time Zone, June 28, 2013.
2) Subject matter: all birds of prey. These include eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, ospreys, kites, and vultures. Please describe the subject and how you took the photo. If known, include species name, location, whether it is wild or captive, camera details, and other interesting facts.
3) Entry Limits: up to10 photos per contestant. No photos that have been previously published in any commercial media.
4) Eligiblity: must be age 13 or older. Employees of The Peregrine Fund are not eligible to receive prizes, but one employee will be recognized as Staff Photographer of the Year.
5) Winners: four winners (3 general and 1 staff) will be selected based on votes. Ten honorable mention winners will be selected by The Peregrine Fund calendar editors. All winners will be notified by e-mail.
6) Publication: the grand prize winner agrees to provide the winning image for publication in The Peregrine Fund’s Birds of Prey 2014 Calendar. Other winners' entries may be featured in the calendar as well, at the editors' discretion.
7) Format: only horizontal photos that fit our calendar dimensions: minimum 10” wide by 8” tall and 300 dpi resolution. File must be .jpg, .jpeg, or .gif format, maximum size 5 MB.
8) Editing: no digital composites. Photos altered beyond necessary cropping, color balancing, and sharpening are ineligible. Black and white photos are allowed. It is assumed that the submitted photo is what your camera recorded when the shutter was released.
9) Copyright: by submitting photos, all contestants agree to allow The Peregrine Fund to reproduce all or portions of those photos for promotional purposes, in print or online, at no cost to The Peregrine Fund. By submitting the photo, each entrant confirms that he or she is the creator of the photo and has full authority to submit it to this contest. Individuals retain all copyrights to their own work.
10) Safety and ethics: take necessary precautions to ensure your safety and the safety of others while taking pictures. Please see the American Birding Association’s Code of Birding Ethics and the Principles of Ethical Field Practices published by the North American Nature Photography Association for guidelines on how to observe wildlife without causing undue stress or harm. Failure to take proper precautions will result in disqualification of the entry.
11) Liability: The Peregrine Fund shall not be held liable for telephone, electronic, hardware, software, network, internet, or computer malfunctions, failures, or difficulties of any kind; failed, incomplete, garbled, or delayed computer transmissions; any condition caused by events beyond the control of The Peregrine Fund that may cause entries to be disrupted or corrupted; any injuries, losses, damages or claims of any kind arising in connection with or as a result of participation in The Peregrine Fund Photo Competition; or any printing or typographical errors in any material associated with the contest.
12) Cancellation: The Peregrine Fund reserves the right to cancel or amend the competition at anytime, or to disqualify any entrant at its sole discretion.
