La Casa de San Gabriel Community Center

For 66 years, La Casa has served the Hispanic and Native American community of the West San Gabriel Valley. Our primary mission is to encourage and support children and families in need. By providing direct human services, advocacy and referrals, La Casa seeks to enhance the educational and economic well being of the people it serves. La Casa serves as a comprehensive family resource center to help economically disadvantaged families in their efforts to overcome the barriers of limited education, underemployment, poverty, language, inadequate housing and lack of medical care. The programs and services offered at La Casa include: • Operation of a licensed, multicultural, bilingual preschool for 48 children including provision of a nutritious breakfast and lunch • Parenting classes in English and Spanish • Adult education to develop basic life skills (family literacy, money management, health and nutrition) • Teen preschool internships filled from Del Mar High School (continuation school) • Health screenings • Food and clothing distribution for clients • Centralized meeting location for Spanish language recovery programs • Job referrals • Folklorico dance classes • Service center and headquarters of the Gabrielino/Tongva Tribal Council To facilitate the economical delivery of needed services, La Casa has established collaborative partnerships with other community agencies, including Kaiser Permanente, East West Bank, the local medical center, public library and others.
