Tenderness

Tenderness

I'd been to the LA Zoo a few times, but always seemed to miss seeing the Chimpanzees. Recently, on a cool and overcast day at the Zoo, all of the Chimpanzees were out enjoying the cool weather. I felt lucky to have been there that day because two of the Chimpanzee mothers were out with their little ones. We always hear about how "like humans" Chimpanzees are. But somehow, seeing them 'in-person' and interacting with each other really makes you understand that fact. This photo gives you a hint of the very sweet tenderness that the Chimpanzee mothers showed towards their babies, which I felt very honored to witness. Just before I took this photo, the same Chimpanzee mother had been covering her baby's face with kisses and he had his little face all scrunched up. If he could speak, he would have been saying "C'mon Mom, that's enough- your'e embarrassing me!"
