Cici(cross country) ran into a four line highway as we were driving by. I got out on foot as my husband followed us in his truck. After 2 1/2 miles of trying to catch her, she finally got tired and went onto a porch. She allowed me to pick her up though she was trembling. We took her back to the store she ran from hoping to find her owner, only to be told by the manager of the store that the reason she ran was because her owner deliberately held her down as she allowed a car to run over her tail(that explained the tire marks on her tail) He also said he had seen the woman with her before kicking her and he thought it was better if we took her home. She hid under my daughters bed for almost 3 months before she finally trusted us enough to come out. We got her to our vet and he said she had been through a lot of abuse, especially her hips and felt she had been kicked a lot. We had never seen a dog who could curl up so small and try and make herself as un-noticeable as possible as her. It took us three years to earn her trust and love but it was so worth it. She is a totally different dog now. She loves to play with her kibbles, tossing them, then chasing after them. When one of our other rescued dogs had puppies, she kept trying to steal them and when the mother stopped taking care of them, she took over, even producing milk which the vet found amazing considering her age. She now sleeps in a bed with her best friend Sugar and they watch out for each other.
