CAAP: Twenty Years and Beyond

CAAP or the Council of African American Parents has survived as a volunteer organization dedicated to improving college outcomes for African American students and families. Based in Diamond Bar, California where initial efforts were made to ensure that African American students had full access to AP and Honors courses, this organization has impacted thousands of lives through four basic programs. All volunteer lead. Annual Student/Parent Educational Symposium: Offering participants chances to speak directly to admissions professionals, attend workshops related to college preparation, and look at meaningful ways to improve education at all levels for all scholars. Junior/Senior Workshop: A fast paced, portfolio building program designed to help students identify where they have the best chance of pursuing their bachelor's degree on the way to building careers--and continuing to build communities where the village concept is used to raise our children. PALS: Personalized Academic Learning System. Fourth through eleventh graders work on a wide array of academic skills and learn to build academic programs leading to scholarships for college. Legacy Roundtable: Accelerated Mathematics at its best. Middle and high school males are supported in their quest to obtain a full year of high school credit for completing rigorous math courses at local community colleges. These programs and cultural experiences teach our students to expect excellence in all they do!
